HARIDWAR

  • Identity: Haridwar (Gateway to the Gods) – Start of the Char Dham Yatra.

  • Highlight: Har Ki Pauri & Ganga Aarti – The daily, must-see evening ritual of light and sound on the sacred Ganga ghat.

  • Must-Visit Temples: Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi (mention scenic ropeways).

HILL STATIONS

  • Water: Rishikesh is the core, offering world-class White Water Rafting on the Ganga, alongside Kayaking and riverside Camping. It’s also the site for India’s highest Bungee Jumping spot.

  • Mountain: Year-round Trekking is popular, ranging from easy treks (Dayara Bugyal) to challenging expeditions.

  • Snow: Auli is renowned for premier Skiing and Snowboarding slopes during winter months (Dec-Feb).

CHAR DHAM

The Char Dham Yatra is the most sacred pilgrimage in Uttarakhand (Devbhumi), comprising four holy sites in the Himalayas:

  1. Yamunotri: Source of the Yamuna River.

  2. Gangotri: Source of the Ganga River.

  3. Kedarnath: Home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas (Lord Shiva).

  4. Badrinath: Abode of Lord Vishnu.

Season: The temples are open for pilgrimage for roughly six months, typically late April/early May to late October/early November, closing with the onset of winter snow. It requires careful planning and high fitness levels.

NATURE

  • Biodiversity Hotspot: Home to diverse flora and fauna, including the endangered snow leopard and Himalayan monal.

  • National Parks: Features the globally famous Jim Corbett National Park (tiger reserve) and Rajaji National Park.

  • Unique Phenomenon: The Valley of Flowers National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, displaying hundreds of blooming alpine flowers in summer.

  • Water Bodies: Origin of the sacred Ganga and Yamuna Rivers, with countless high-altitude lakes like Nainital and Roopkund.

  • Rishikesh: The Adventure Capital, famous for White Water Rafting on the Ganga and India’s highest Bungee Jumping (83m). Other activities include Giant Swing and Ziplining.

  • Auli: A top winter sports hub, offering excellent Skiing and Snowboarding slopes with views of Nanda Devi.

  • Trekking: Offers varied terrains, from easy weekend treks (like Nag Tibba) to challenging multi-day high-altitude treks (like Kedarkantha).
